Resting the urge to scream.
- Sarcastically - Speaking in a mocking or ironic way, often to imply the opposite of what’s said. Example: “She said, ‘Great job,’ sarcastically, after he spilled the coffee.”
- Chimed - To speak in agreement or add to a conversation, often at the right moment. It also refers to the ringing of a bell. Example: “He chimed in with his own opinion during the discussion.”
- Scatter - To spread things out randomly or cause them to move in different directions. Example: “The wind scattered the leaves across the lawn.”
- Be underway - To be in progress or happening. Example: “Preparations for the festival are already underway.”
- Be stranded - To be stuck or left in a difficult situation, unable to move forward or get help. Example: “They were stranded on the island with no boat in sight.”
- Assure - To comfort someone by making them feel certain or safe about something. Example: “She assured him that everything would be fine.”
- Pointless - Without purpose or effectiveness; not worth the effort. Example: “It felt pointless to argue with someone who wouldn’t listen.”
- Pleaded - Begged or requested something urgently and sincerely. Example: “He pleaded with his friend to stay a little longer.”
- Floret - A small flower or part of a cluster of flowers, or a small piece of a vegetable like broccoli. Example: “She cut the broccoli into florets.”
- Repulse - To cause someone to feel intense dislike or disgust. Example: “The sight of the spoiled food repulsed him.”
- Fall into place - To happen smoothly or work out naturally. Example: “As she started the new job, everything began to fall into place.”
- Nudge - To gently push or prod someone, often to gain attention or encourage action. Example: “He nudged her to remind her of her turn.”
- Ominously - In a way that suggests something bad or threatening might happen. Example: “The clouds gathered ominously on the horizon.”
- Fretted - Worried or became anxious about something. Example: “She fretted about missing the deadline.”
- Tear one’s gaze away - To force oneself to stop looking at something. Example: “She had to tear her gaze away from the beautiful view.”
- Peter out - To gradually decrease or weaken until it stops. Example: “The music slowly petered out as the party ended.”
